A bit of a throwback this week, this is one of my favorite albums. Top 5, easily. Rolling Stone has it as one of their top 100 Metal Albums. T-Bone and I had the pleasure of seeing Helmet perform at Universal back in the day when Meantime just released with Helmet, Sepultura, and Ministry. It was nuts, one of the best shows I’ve been to. Not sure their other albums really measured up to Meantime, they put in solid work with Betty, but I wasn’t a fan of Aftertaste.
Had a long conversation Thursday with one of the younger guys at work about how much music has changed in the last couple decades and where I think it’s going. Don’t remember what prompted it, but I definitely remember Glam Rock and Hair Metal being part of the conversation. One of the thoughts was if we’d ever see a style of music or a particular band emerge that would unify a large mass of people. Personally I think we’ll see more fracturing and specialization of people’s tastes and preference, music tribalism if you will, but still plenty of enough people who are genre-curious.
