Despite being relatively local, somehow Kyuss escaped my notice when they were still active in the early 90’s. I was even the age I could get to shows easily and still I missed them. I think in those years I was listening to Ministry, Sepultura, Helmet, some others, so I was genre-adjacent, just for some reason Kyuss never popped up for me.
Either way, the Welcome to Sky Valley album is absolutely outstanding. Crunchy guitar riffs, heavy bass grooves, splashy-cymbal beats from the drumset. When you look at the bands that asexually budded from Kyuss it’s not wonder they were so good. Really bummed I never got to see them live.
